Surviving Almond Blossom Season: HVAC Tips

We love the festival, but we hate the pollen. Keep your home safe.

Posted on July 28, 2025 | Location: Quartz Hill, CA

Quartz Hill is famous for its almond orchards and the annual festival. But for allergy sufferers, spring in the Westside can be miserable. Your HVAC system is your first line of defense against the yellow dust that coats everything this time of year.

Upgrade Your Filter

That standard fiberglass filter you buy for $5 isn't catching pollen. It's only catching rocks. To stop almond pollen, you need a filter with a MERV rating of at least 8 or 10.

Warning: Don't go too high (like MERV 16) without consulting us, as it can restrict airflow and damage your motor.

Run the Fan (Even When Not Cooling)

Most thermostats have a "Fan On" setting. During peak pollen days, run the fan to constantly circulate air through your filter, scrubbing it clean. Just remember to change the filter more often!

Duct Cleaning: Is it Worth It?

If you have lived in Quartz Hill for years and never cleaned your ducts, they are likely lined with years of dust and pollen. A professional duct cleaning can reset your home's air quality baseline.
